Okay, so I have gone way too long without writing anything. I have been sitting here for about 30 minutes trying to figure out what I would like to say because there are too many things floating around inside my head. Sooooo, I decided I would tell you about meeting Derek Webb a few weeks ago.
Derek Webb was in concert with Judd and Maggie and Sandra McCracken at my church on April Fool's Day. I made a fool of myself. It's kind of funny, actually. You see, I have been listening to Derek's music since 1995 when I heard Caedmon's Call play at a church in the Dallas area. Since that time God has used his lyrics over and over to encourage me and spur me on. The dude is seriously brilliant and I am a huge fan. I can't help myself.
So, of course after the concert (which was amazing by the way), I had to try to meet him. My friend David and I went to talk to Judd and
Maggie first and Derek was right next to us talking to several fans. I noticed peeking out of the bottom of his left sleeve the phrase "Soli Deo Gloria" tattooed on his arm. And I thought to myself, "I'll bet he has all five!" (Cries of the Reformation, that is) So, i interrupt him and say, "Oh my goodness! Can I take a picture of your arm?" Not "hello." Not "The concert was great." Not "your music inspires me to love Jesus more." Nope. I asked to take a picture of his arm. He very graciously replied, "Do you mind if I keep talking while you do?" And I say, "Sure! Just roll up your sleeve." I am a complete dork.
So, then I try to recover and stand in line to actually talk to the man. I'm sure he thinks I'm nuts. However, I did manage to have a decent ten minute conversation with him. I don't know that that makes up for it at all, but it has to count for something.
